How This Food Got Here
One of the most popular food and definitely a must try dish in Puerto Princesa is the Chaolong. The Chaolong is a Vietnamese dish and it is brought to Puerto Princesa by the Vietnamese immigrants, there are quite a lot of Vietnamese immigrants in Puerto Princesa who migrated to flee from the war in Vietnam and most of them came to cross the seas to Puerto Princesa just to escape the war.
The Chaolong became so popular that many residents of Puerto Princesa were able to put up their restaurants or commonly called Chaolongan.
The Chaolong and What It Is
After our trip to Puerto Princesa I was able to personally meet an acquaintance from Vietnam and told him about how i love the Chaolong when i described it to him he told me that, that is not Chaolong it is Pho. So here's the description the "Chaolong" that i've tasted is a noodle soup with beef with basil and some bean sprouts, apparently it is not Chaolong but rather my description fits more of a Pho, my friend explained that Chaolong is pork innards mixed in rice porridge. So what i ate in Puerto Princesa was not Chaolong but Pho.
Anyway it would seem that in Puerto Princesa the Chaolong became a popular name associated with such preparation of the dish that local residents came to accept and love said dish. Yep never mind if there was an error on how to properly name it, as long as it is delicious.
The Best Chaolong In Puerto Princesa
Ok so I haven't tasted the Chaolong of each and every Chaolongan in Puerto Princesa but i could definitely say that the one I've tried at the Vietnamese Village is one of the best. Of course where else can you get the most authentic Chaolong but at its original birthplace in Puerto Princesa, at the Vietnamese Village. Now eating Chaolong is not enought, maybe you have tried Chicken Mami paired with Siopao? Chaolong goes well with Banh Mi or the French bread and at the Vietnamese Village they have created several dishes involving the French Bread. The basic toasted french bread with butter and garlic would suffice as your Chaolongs partner but if you want more they can whip you up a French Bread sandwich.
So if ever you are in the beautiful City of Puerto Princesa you should try out the Chaolong, although there are a number of Chaolongan around Puerto Princesa you must try the Chaolong being served at the Vietnamese Village then if you have time try the other Chaolongans around Puerto Princesa, one thing is for sure though you will definitely enjoy eating this dish.
